Monday 30th January- Tate Modern exhibition visit

Me, Helen and Hong decided to visit Tate modern exhibition, to see how it is organised and to find something useful for our future exhibition.

First of all, I paid attention to this poster, because it was on the wall around the entrance to the exhibition. It was not something related to the exhibition we visited, but it can be an idea for our class- how to make a leaflet or poster (the picture which gives an idea what it is about, the name of organiser, the date, the name of the gallery).

Tate Moder is using signs on the walls to guide people.

The timeline is drawn on the walls, it shows different periods and its styles. Going upstairs it was seen that the timeline grow (the years).

The plate (Viewpoints) explains what this timeline is about, what is shown on it.
Also some small pictures can be seen on this photo. These are the drawings of children, and it is interesting to see how they are organised- many small squares in one big square. Later on, we found different ways how to organise the pictures and exhibits.

This is an example how the pictures are put together with exhibits making one common composition, completing each other. Basically, as Tate Modern has so many walls, the majority of the art peaces are on the walls.

Here are shown the pictures of different sizes and how they are placed on the wall. Very interesting fact, that they are combined in composition of four.

The description plates are placed on the level where every person will be able to read the information, not too high or too law. This is an example where they are or separately , or in composition of three. Also, I found some where it was a composition of four.

Helen is observing some interesting pictures :) Right behind her the composition of 12 pictures which are placed by 6 in the line. Also, the plates with explanation are placed under the pictures in composition of two, because if they would be placed near each picture it would be difficult to read.

This is a very nice example of the pictures placed vertically and horizontally keeping the harmony. Horizontally placed pictures in the middle and vertical once are placed symmetrically in both sides.

Some peaces of metal are exhibited but it is not the main on this picture. The area is separated putting a rope which at the same time encloses the exhibits and guides people to the entrance to another room.

Some exhibits were placed in the wall behind the glass. This is also one of the ways. However in mezzanine it would be almost impossible to do.

We also saw how the pictures are placed on the wall. This two men where sticking them making sure all the picture are sticked straightly.

Some exhibits were places on the ground and enclosed with the rope.
We could think about this variant for our exhibition.

Using a corner of two walls to make a composition from small peaces of paper and making a certain effect by that.

Some exhibits were places totally on the ceiling, for example this variant.

The combination of three pictures.

Different combinations of the pictures.

The combination of two big and three small pictures with common theme.

The combination of pictures and statues with common theme.

Also, some exhibits were placed on the ropes on the ceiling.

In another room was an exhibition of modern art and the pictures were placed on the walls.
Here it can be seen that many different pictures are placed close to each other on one wall.

In the same room but on another wall the pictures were placed in totally different way.

It is a very clever way of placing them like that, because if all the walls would be fool with pictures or opposite it would be horrible view. Entering this room and seeing this certain placement gives the feeling of harmony.

It was a very useful trip to Tate Modern what gave us a clear understanding of how the exhibitions should look like and what ideas could be used in our own exhibition. I also look forward to see what the other students found in another exhibitions.
